First math class at Swarthmore: MATH 028: Linear Algebra with Theory
What was your favorite math class and why? My favorite math class so far is STAT 061 because it challenged me to think more deeply about how statistical analysis is done.
Why did you become a math major? I've always enjoyed the procedural nature of mathematics and the analytical approaches that mathematicians and statisticians use to solve everyday problems. I wanted to explore that more deeply by pursuing a math major with an emphasis in statistics.
How do you expect to use your mathematics after leaving Swarthmore? I'm not entirely sure yet. I'm considering going into biomedical research, and having a background in statistics will definitely be helpful in that field.
What advice do you have for an incoming student? Get to know your professors and clinicians! They're always willing to help and provide the support you need to succeed. Also, start your homework at least a week before it’s due, or at the very least, look over the questions early.
Anything else you'd like to share? Pursuing a math major is, quite frankly, a thrilling experience, so be ready for the ups and downs that come with it.
