First math class at Swarthmore: Linear Algebra with Theory (MATH 028) with Professor Hsu.
What was your favorite math class and why? It's a tough choice (all my math classes at Swat have been great!), but I'll say Stochastic and Numerical Methods (MATH 066). I had a great time in that course, which has also been super relevant as a double major in engineering. I always love it when a math concept I find inherently satisfying also pops up in cool applications.
Why did you become a math major? I've always loved math and using logical thinking to rigorously solve a problem. Taking math courses at Swarthmore has only reinforced that enjoyment as I've gotten the chance to learn from passionate professors and collaborate with similarly engaged students.
How do you expect to use your mathematics after leaving Swarthmore? I plan to pursue a research career in structural engineering, so I hope to apply mathematical knowledge to develop a safer and more sustainable built environment.
