The senior class speaker, as voted by her peers, was Natalie Bamdad '11.
'Some of us are headed off to grad school or to new jobs,' said senior class speaker Natalie Bamdad '11.
'Others of us have found comfort in the belief that jobs are just social constructions, made for greedy people who don't see the value in returning to your roots, spending some time with good 'ole mom and dad, sitting on the couch with a bowl of cereal, existing as a warm body radiating love.'

'Swarthmore passion, it seems to me, is always the incredible combination of your heart's gladness and the world's great need,' said President Rebecca Chopp in her address to the graduates.
President Chopp bestowed upon publisher and philanthropist David Bradley '75 the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
'My mental frame was as if you could think and think and think and eventually hit a wall where the insights stopped,' David Bradley '75. 'Then, against any reasonable expectation, Swarthmore would demand you think farther. And, suddenly you discover that terminal wall in that is porous. It's like a gauze curtain. And, thinking harder, you cross over — or through — and find a whole new space of original ideas.'

President Chopp bestowed upon acclaimed criminiologist David Kennedy '80 the degree of Doctor of Laws.
'I genuinely believe,' said David Kennedy '80, 'that the habits of mind, the fundamental orientation, that was bred into me personally, at least, at home, and honed here at Swarthmore College, are central to why we have been able to make our way.'

President Chopp bestowed upon entrepreneur and educator Iqbal Quadir '81 the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
'Thirty years ago,' said Iqbal Quadir '81, 'I concluded my time here as a student, and ever since, my Swarthmore education has served as an all-purpose and flexible boat for me.'
