Department Overview

Welcome to the International Students website!

I am delighted to welcome all of our international students to Swarthmore College. The International Student Center provides a wide range of services to our entire international student population. We are committed to international education and we provide assistance concerning visas and all related immigration issues.

We are here to support academic, and personal success throughout your Swarthmore experience and beyond. You are always welcome to stop by our office!

Warmly,
Jennifer Marks-Gold

The International Student Center

The International Student Center provides comprehensive services and programs for our international students. International students enrich classrooms, campuses, and communities in ways that endure long after students return to their home countries, and we focus on every available resource to support our diverse population. We have international students from over 50 different countries at Swarthmore College.

From student orientation to alumni panels and weekly dinners, the International Student Center supports a variety of programs, both academic and social, throughout the year. In addition to immigration workshops, the office offers a variety of other workshops to help students succeed both at Swarthmore and beyond. This past year, the office hosted an intensive public speaking workshop with international female-identifying students. The workshop was designed to help students practice and improve communication skills.

The office also supports undocumented/DACA students and is actively working to increase support, training, and club development for these students through collaboration with Admissions and other partners throughout campus. The office led an initiative to place the monarch butterfly symbol for understanding, support, humanity, and freedom in offices across campus to demarcate safe spaces and allies for undocumented students.

Further, the International Student Center is a campus leader in responding to global issues and crises. Support for global attacks and natural disasters is offered by the office through candlelight vigils, one-on-one counseling, and other individual support. Individual support and guidance is also offered to students who may be struggling with personal problems.

The International Student Center  is now located in the  Hormel-Nguyen Intercultural Center at Sproul Hall. This space includes Advisors offices, collaborative student spaces, meeting rooms and a large kitchen.

Due to a memo from the current administration as of August 9th it is more important than ever to check that you were entered under the proper visa and not as a student. Check your I-94 each time you re-enter the country.
