Administrative Information Systems
The Administrative Information Systems group is responsible for information technology that supports the core college business functions such as admissions, financial aid, registration and student life, the business office, human resources and payroll, and alumni services.
These key functions are supported through the use of the Banner system provided by ellucian.
Additionally, AIS provides custom applications that extend the capabilities of the basic Banner functionality and provides integration services for systems requiring access to college database.
Banner is a suite of products that contains human resource, student, finance, financial aid, alumni and development used at Swarthmore to manage day-to-day business operations. "Banner" is the name of an enterprise software solution for higher education developed by ellucian (formerly Sungard HE, SCT).
Note that if your computer is connected to wireless or is off-campus, you need to connect through the VPN to load the Banner web page.
The Banner system is generally available 24 hours a day except during scheduled maintenance, upgrades, or a need to restart the system. An email communication is sent to all Banner users when Banner is going to be unavailable.
Banner maintenance is scheduled for the Wednesday following the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 8 a.m.-noon.
Change your Banner Password:
- Go to Administrative Tools
- Enter your Email Username.
- Enter your Email Password.
- Enter the new Banner password you would like.
- Click the Submit button to change the password.
MySwarthmore (Banner Self-Service)
Swarthmore also uses Banner Self-Service Web applications for students, faculty and staff. MySwarthmore is only accessible from off-campus while connected to the VPN.
Evisions Argos (Reporting)
Argos is a web-enabled reporting solution used to extract data from the Banner system. The tool is supported on PCs and Macs with a Windows emulator or through the Argos WebViewer. This tool is generally available 24 hours a day except during scheduled maintenance periods, upgrades, or when there is a need to restart the system. Department contacts are notified of these outages. This tool is only accessible from off-campus while connected to the VPN.
Banner Document Management (Document Imaging)
BDM is a web-based document imaging and management system.
Appgarden provides a dashboard-type interface to applications developed by the Administrative Information Systems group that extend the functionality of the Banner system. Appgarden will display any custom applications for which you are authorized and allow single sign-on access to those applications.
Employees who need help with Banner or other administrative systems should contact their department liaison whenever possible. Department liaisons work with the ITS Administrative Information Systems team to provide administrative support to their departments.
