FAQ for 2026 Summer Housing at Swarthmore

Is my housing assignment final?

We hope to not have any moves BUT we always reserve the right to relocate a student if the spring resident of your summer room does not depart on time. If the resident of your summer room ends up being a late stay and/or there is another extenuating circumstance that requires us to change a room assignment we will be in contact as soon as possible with an update. We do not anticipate that most room assignments will change.

I wanted to be placed in Crum Ledge but I was assigned Mertz or Parrish. May I switch?

There are approximately 250 summer residents and only 48 bed spaces available in Crum Ledge.  The majority of students were not able to be accommodated in Crum Ledge.  While it is possible that spaces will open up and we can allow moves, we are not immediately expecting vacancies. You are welcome to email housing@swarthmore.edu on June 1st to see if any spaces have opened up in Crum Ledge that we can use for summer housing.

I was placed in a double room without a roommate?  Can I be guaranteed that no one will be assigned the space with me?

We have placed all students who requested housing on-time. If you do not currently have a roommate we cannot guarantee that someone will not be assigned; if we do accept late housing applications we will be in touch with anyone impacted.

I was placed in a double room with a roommate but I prefer a single. May I switch?

At this time ALL singles have been assigned in summer housing locations. Feel free to reach out to housing@swarthmore.edu on June 1st to see if any singles have become available.

When do I move into my summer housing assignment?

If you selected a start date of May 29 or after, you MUST completely vacate your spring room no later than May 15, 2026 and will be allowed to move to campus on May 29th (or any day thereafter). If you are selected May 22 as your start date (“10 week term”, Term A, Term B, or Term C) you will be provided INTERIM housing in your summer room assignment (May 15 - May 26, 2026). On the afternoon of May 26, 2026 you will move from your spring housing assignment to your summer housing assignment. All room moves must be completed by 9am on Wednesday, May 27th.

When/how do I pay for summer housing?   Your bill for the summer will be posted in the Housing Portal towards the end of May and you will be able to pay via credit card or ACH (checking account) directly in the portal.  Payment is not due until after summer funding has been distributed but must be paid in full no later than July. You may pay in installments but please note that the bank might charge you a % fee on each payment made.

Is there a penalty for canceling my summer housing request?

No, there is no fee for canceling summer housing if you do it before 5pm on Friday, 5/15. Please email HOUSING@swarthmore.edu if your plans have changed. Please note that you will be expected to move out on Friday, 5/15 if you cancel your summer housing application.

Is there a summer meal plan?

Yes, there is a PARTIAL summer meal plan available for students who live in campus housing.  This meal plan will begin 5/22/26 and provides only partial meal support. Students must budget their funds accordingly.  The meal plan includes a total of 10 meals for the summer and $300 in Swat points (for use on and off-campus).

Is the August 1st move-out day firm?

Yes, in order to provide EVS and Facilities with enough time to prepare the buildings for the Fall semester, late move-out requests in August cannot be accommodated.  If you qualify for emergency interim housing you will be emailed individually about next steps in late July.
