2026 Spring into Wellness Week

Enjoy free and fun fitness, health, and educational programming throughout the week. Information about each wellness week session, the Spring Wellness Fair, and the Be Well Community Wellness Day can be found below and on Swat Central. We hope you can join us for some or all of the great events we have lined up!

This year we will be offering wellness screenings and nutritional counseling. All well-being resources are available to Swarthmore staff and faculty at no cost. Staff and faculty members will have an opportunity to win a prize for attending events.

Scott Arboretum Guided Walking Tour, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Get your steps in, enjoy being in nature, and learn about the various plants on College grounds. Meet at the Rose Garden on the east side of Parrish Hall.

The Importance of Self-Care: Mindfully Finding the Balance, noon-1 p.m.

During this training with an expert from our Employee Assistance Program, AllOne Health, we will identify the best methods of self-care, specific to your own needs and how it will make a positive impact on yourself, as well as those around you.

Radiance Restored: Simple Skin Care Inspired by Nature, 1-2 p.m.

Renourish, rebalance and refresh! Heather Rice, wellness practitioner, will teach participants about how the current season may affect the balance of the largest organ in our bodies, our skin. Rooted in the science of Ayurveda, each participant will receive a seasonally appropriate, premade all-natural face mask. Ingredients will all be of things one may easily source and might already have in their kitchen.

Swarthmore College Retiree Health Program, 11-noon

Location: IC Dome, Sproul 201

The College offers benefit-eligible retiring employees the opportunity to participate in the Swarthmore College Retiree Health Plan. Karen Snyder, director of benefits & wellness, will provide information on eligibility, plan offerings and review the process to participate. We encourage all employees to attend to learn about this valuable benefit.

Spice Up Your Life: Learn More About The Healing Power Of Food, 1-2 p.m.

This quote, often attributed to Ayurvedic principles, emphasizes the importance of nutrition for overall health and well-being. In this session, Heather Rice, wellness practitioner, will discuss the seasonal healing powers of spices! Each participant will not only learn about the health benefits of each spice, but will receive a spice blend made by Heather and a recipe to make a seasonal masala they can cook at home!

Wellness Screenings & Nutritional Counseling, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Location: Clothier Hall, Upper Tarble

Join us for wellness screenings, nutritional counseling and fun activities!!  You’ll be able to:

  • Receive a Non-fasting Lipid Profile via Finger Stick - Full lipid panel to include total cholesterol and ratios, triglycerides, glucose, blood pressure (BP), pulse, body mass index (BMI), measured height, weight, waist girth - registration is required. Register here
  • Learn about The Skinny on Skin Cancer from Licensed Medical Professionals and receive a Derma Scan (the tested area of your face must be free of makeup - wipes will be provided or you may bring your own if you experience sensitive skin)
  • Receive a Vision Screening
  • Receive a Hearing Test
  • Meet with registered dieticians from our wellness partner, HUSK, to ask questions, learn about wellness programs they offer and to sign-up for 1:1 nutritional counseling for a future date.  The dieticians will also provide Inflammation and Brain Health Stations offering samples and suggestions for anti-inflammatory and brain-boosting foods and recipes
  • Enjoy a 10-minute Chair Massage - registration not required
  • Enjoy a fun competitive game of Connect Four (Lifesize)

Giving Effective Feedback, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Feedback is an important part of working and communicating within a team. In this session, Lindsay Raclaw, learning & development manager, will teach participants four elements of effective feedback and a model for structuring feedback that focuses on intent. The session includes time for practice and discussion.

The Emotional, Physical & Financial Preparation of Retirement, 11 a.m.-noon

Retirement is a major life change that not everyone is prepared for.  In this class, Dr. Beverly Richards, mental health expert, will help you get ready for retirement by stepping you through the emotional, physical and financial considerations of this exciting chapter in the book of life.

Managing the Stress of Parenting, 1-2 p.m.

Being a parent means there is constantly too much to do and too little time.  AllOne Health EAP will provide tools and resources for managing responsibilities and caring for children throughout each stage of growth that can help make parenting easier.

What You Need to Know About Social Security, 2-2:45 p.m.

This pre-recorded presentation will be facilitated by a financial expert with TIAA, Swarthmore College’s 403b recordkeeper. In this session you will discover social security essentials and strategies to help maximize retirement income, including spousal, survivor, and

disability benefits.  There will be a Q&A opportunity following the presentation.

Be Well Community Wellness Day, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Location: Various locations around campus  

The 2nd annual Be Well Community Wellness Day is an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to participate in a wide range of activities with a focus on various dimensions of wellness.  Activities will include blender bike smoothies, sound baths, professional headshots, drum circle, food trucks, therapy dogs and more!
