Admissions Outlook
In 2022, 23,810 applicants were accepted to allopathic (MD) medical school out of 55,188 who applied, for an overall acceptance rate of 43%. However, the acceptance rate at any given school is considerably lower. At Albany Medical College, for example, 1% of the total number of applicants matriculated (139 out of 12,496); at Drexel, 2% (304 out of 15,980). The outlook for Swarthmore premedical students is much better than the overall acceptance rate of 43%. Our acceptance rate in 2022 was 81% — substantially higher than the national average — a record that few other colleges can claim.
