In 2018, 22,483 applicants were accepted to allopathic (MD) medical school out of 52,777 who applied, for an overall acceptance rate of 43%. However, the acceptance rate at any given school is considerably lower. At Albany Medical College, for example, 1% of the total number of applicants matriculated (140 out of 9,889); at Drexel, 2% (256 out of 13,529). The outlook for Swarthmore premedical students is much better than the overall acceptance rate of 43%. Our acceptance rate in 2018 was 68% — substantially higher than the national average — a record that few other colleges can claim.
