In 2020, 23,105 applicants were accepted to allopathic (MD) medical school out of 53,030 who applied, for an overall acceptance rate of 44%. However, the acceptance rate at any given school is considerably lower. At Albany Medical College, for example, 1% of the total number of applicants matriculated (143 out of 11,344); at Drexel, 2% (267 out of 13,482). The outlook for Swarthmore premedical students is much better than the overall acceptance rate of 44%. Our acceptance rate in 2020 was 80% — substantially higher than the national average — a record that few other colleges can claim.
