Student On-Campus Employment: Required Documents and Job Fair
This message was sent by Meg Wherrity on August 5, 2025
Hello,
Getting Ready to Work: Required Documents and Information
After you are hired for an on-campus job, you will need to complete required onboarding paperwork (like direct deposit and tax forms) and an in-person I-9 document verification before you can begin work or training.
You will need the following information and documents with you on campus if you plan to work:
Bank Account Information: Specifically, your bank name, account number, and routing number for direct deposit.
Social Security Number (SSN): This is required for tax purposes.
Identification Documents for Form I-9 Verification: The I-9 form confirms your eligibility to work in the United States. You'll need to present original, unexpired documents from the federal List of Acceptable Documents. Common examples include a U.S. Passport or a combination of a driver's license and Social Security card.
Important Note: Many official documents, especially passports, are set to expire when an individual turns 18 years old. Expired documents cannot be accepted.
International Students: Resources for opening a bank account and applying for a Social Security number can be found in the International Student Handbook provided by the International Student Center.
Always keep your bank information and personal documents stored safely and securely.
Finding and Applying for On-Campus Jobs
You can explore and apply for on-campus positions through JobX, Swarthmore’s student employment database. Simply log in using your Swarthmore email and password.
Open positions will be added to JobX continuously throughout the summer and the fall semester. To help you explore your options, a First-Year Student Job Fair will be held on the afternoon of Friday, August 29, 2025. All incoming students are strongly encouraged to attend to learn about available opportunities for this and upcoming semesters. More details will be shared during Orientation.
Important Things to Keep in Mind:
The Student Employment Office (SEO) doesn't directly place students in jobs. Instead, we help you identify opportunities that align with your skills, interests, and availability.
At the start of each academic year, students with work aid (campus employment) as part of their financial aid package will receive hiring priority for on-campus positions. First-year students without financial aid assistance are still welcome and encouraged to apply for jobs.
The Student Employment Office website will be updated prior to Orientation with the policies, procedures, and resources for the Fall 2025 semester.
We're here to support you in your on-campus employment journey!
