Timely Warning Notice - Sexual Assault 5/17/16

Dear Community Members,

On 5/17/16, at 12:30 A.M., a female Swarthmore student reported a sexual assault to Swarthmore Public Safety. The woman had been out for the evening with a man approximately thirty years old and not affiliated with the College.  The sexual assault occurred in the Bond/Ben West parking lot on campus.  No further information about the incident or description of the male individual is available at this time.

If you are the victim of a sexual assault you can report to your local police department and/or access on and off campus resources detailed on the SHARE website:  www.swarthmore.edu/share Contacting the Department of Public Safety or other law enforcement agencies can also assist with access to additional resources, such as CAPS, Health and Wellness Center, and/or other victim advocate resources.

The Federal Clery Act requires that colleges with a campus public safety agency must, in a manner that is timely and will aid in the prevention of similar crimes, report to the campus community crimes that fall into certain categories and that are considered by the institution to represent a continuing threat to the campus community. The Department of Public Safety refers to these notices as "Timely Warning Notices."  This Timely Warning Notice is issued according to this requirement.  Not every instance of a Clery crime represents a continuing threat to the community and therefore Timely Warning Notices are not issued in every instance of a Clery crime on or near the campus.
