Becky Painter '13

Becky Painter '13 is an economics major and a statistics minor. During her junior year at Swarthmore she served as the vice president of the McCabe Scholars Society, and as a senior she is president of the group.

"I grew up in Swarthmore, and I was pretty set on attending college far from home. It wasn't until I was awarded the McCabe Scholarship that I started to consider that the perfect school for me might be right in my backyard. I'm so glad the McCabe Scholarship gave me an opportunity to see all that this school has to offer."

"Not only has the McCabe scholarship bettered me by allowing me to come to this school and learn from the experiences of incredible friends, teammates, classmates and professors, but it has encouraged me to live up to the legacy of Thomas B. McCabe. Although I never met Mr. McCabe, he has been one of my greatest mentors. From first-hand accounts of his life from Wes Argo '64 to stories about his accomplishments in the history books, I have come to understand that the McCabe Scholarship is more than just an award. It is recognition of the achievements of an outstanding man who believed that generations of students after him should benefit from the education he received. His legacy is embodied in the ideals of his scholarship--character, leadership, and academics. Those values have guided my time at Swarthmore and will stay with me going forward."
