We are moving closer to the Fall 2021 housing selection process, and write to share some important updates about next steps.
We intend to move forward with room selection after final off-campus study decisions are released, on or about July 1st. This will help ensure that we are offering rooms based on our true expected occupancy for the Fall, as opposed to an estimate. This will also allow us to ensure that students applying for blocks will continue on and accept the room for the Fall. We would like to avoid having up to 50 abroad students select rooms in blocks and then cancel those assignments if their programs are able to operate. This will allow for a more accurate room selection process for all class years.
Students should think about the Fall 2021 housing lottery as having 3 steps: pre-placement, blocking, and housing lottery/preference selection. Pre-placement is by invitation only; blocking selection is optional and initiated by the student. Housing Lottery/preference selection is the default process for all returning students. Please use this information, along with PREVIOUS EMAIL as you plan for housing selection. Please note that all information provided and charts shared are for general planning purposes and may change before now and housing selection.
One important hall note: if you are a sponsored early return student you will likely NOT be able to select a room in Mertz or Parrish North, due to ongoing construction issues. We anticipate those buildings to only be available beginning with regular returning student move-in.
We have heard from many members of the Class of 2024 that they need assistance in finding a roommate(s) for the Fall 2021! We are happy to help facilitate roommate matching for rising sophomores and will be supporting some virtual ‘mixers’ to help folks find roommates.
Students interested in attending this event should email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the interest form and register for the mixer. Please keep in mind: during the mixer, students will be pre-sorted into break-out rooms based on responses to this form. During the room selection process, students will be able to identify the roommates they found during the mixer. These mixers are tentatively scheduled for July 1st and July 8th, with specific times being referenced on the interest form.
On or about July 1st, the College will begin pre-billing for the Fall 2021 semester. On that date, all students who have housing reserved will be placed into a temporary room assignment so that we can move forward with billing and financial aid distribution. You *may* notice that you will have an assignment of “Temp Hall ###” in myswarthmore later this month. Please do not worry; all students are given the same assignments to a temporary residence hall. This is not your fall placement.
Please note that only students who are scheduled for Fall housing are receiving this email. Off-campus study students will receive a separate email. If you have a friend who does not receive this email it is because they are not on the confirmed housing list. Anyone with questions or concerns should be in contact email@example.com as soon as possible. If you have a friend who did not receive this email don’t panic...there is still time to add them to the list.
Similarly, if you are receiving this email and plan to live off-campus for the Fall term, please email firstname.lastname@example.org asap so that we can correct your bill and send this updated information to other relevant offices (Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, etc)
