Your Assignment:
You can find more information in your Housing Portal including, bathroom gender designations and building amenities. Without further ado, your fall room assignment is:
XXXXX
You will be able to see who your roommate is via the housing portal. We encourage you to reach out to one another utilizing your swarthmore email account to make your initial contact.
In the next few days you will receive another email from me about your assignment and how we can assist you with questions, packing, and getting connected to your community.
Semester Move In Day:
As a reminder most new students will move in on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, between 8:00am and noon. If you will need to travel more than just a few hours to get to campus, you may wish to arrive on the 25th and stay in off-campus lodging. Some general travel information and local accommodation links can be found here. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate early arrivals on campus.
To make move-in day easier for everyone, we encourage a staggered move-in according to where you will be living. This will allow elevators and stairwells to clear out as upper floors arrive first.
- For students who reside on the 4th floor, move-in begins at 8 am
- For students who reside on the 3rd floor, move-in begins at 9 am
- For students who reside on the 2nd floor, move-in begins at 10 am
- For students who reside on the first or ground floor, move-in begins at 11 am
Move-in day will be easier for everyone if you plan to pack light before arriving to campus. There are a variety of resources and stores nearby should you find you need additional items after unpacking. We mention this because residence hall rooms are always smaller than you envision, and you will have to move out each academic year so storing less items will also be a benefit to you.
We have a wonderful Residential Communities team. You'll meet your resident assistant (RA) when you arrive. In the meantime, your area coordinator (AC) will reach out to you in the next week or so to introduce themselves. The ACs are professional staff with masters degrees in student affairs or a related field.
Students who are participating in certain pre-orientation and fall varsity athletic programs will be allowed to come to campus prior to new student orientation. Those approved students will receive information directly from the person coordinating their pre-orientation or team program about move-in. If you are part of a pre-orientation program please do not make travel plans until you receive confirmation about your arrival date.
Although it seems like ages from now, please note that residence halls close for the fall semester on December 20 at 6pm. All students will need to depart campus by that time (you don't need to pack up your room, just your suitcase). For a full review of the residence hall opening and closing dates, review our Housing Calendar site. Please feel free to share this information with your family or anyone who might assist you with planning each year.
We are all very excited to meet you in a few short weeks. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your AC or me if you have questions or concerns
With excitement,
Chris Ossont
