When choosing Mellon Mays Fellows, we consider the following criteria:
Strong academic potential
Commitment to pursuing an academic career
Course of study in an eligible major
Promise for excelling as a mentor and teacher for a wide range of students
Demonstrated commitment to the founding goals of the Mellon Mays program
Availability for dedicated and enthusiastic participation in all aspects of the MMUF program
Citizenship status*
* All U.S. students (defined as citizens, permanent residents, DACA-mented, and undocumented students) are eligible to apply.
Students of all races and ethnicities are welcome to apply for the MMUF, though applications are particularly encouraged from African Americans, Latinos and Latinas, Native Americans, and other underrepresented minorities (URM).
