Department Overview

The Budget Office works to ensure the College’s fiscal sustainability through the equitable allocation of resources visible through the Operating Budget. We provide timely reporting of financial performance to the College’s senior leadership and serve the College community as a resource regarding the Operating Budget and the annual budget process.   

The Department's major responsibilities are:

  • Coordinate and compile the College's annual operating budget in accordance with established guidelines
  • Review departmental budgets submitted through the College's web-based budget portal, mySwarthmore, for accuracy and completeness
  • Advise College leadership regarding resource allocation, financial results, and trends in higher education
  • Work with the Division of Facilities in the development of the College's Capital Plan
  • Communicate budgetary issues to the Swarthmore Community


Swarthmore Student Fees for 2019-2020  

During its meeting in February 2019, the Board of Managers approved the revenue budget for fiscal year 2019-20, which included a 3.9 percent increase in student charges for the coming year. At the same meeting, the Board of Managers reaffirmed its deep commitment to providing a strong financial aid program for qualified students from all economic backgrounds.

Total student charges for the coming year will be $70,744. These costs include Tuition, $54,256; Room, $8,252; Board, $7,836; and the Student Activities Fee, $400. These increases ensure the sustainability of Swarthmore’s preeminent academic programs, stunning campus and grounds, and ongoing support for a myriad of student services.
