Financial Support Initiative - Conference Funds

The Intercultural Center provides students here at Swarthmore College with the opportunity to secure mini-grants for professional development events and conferences. They are designed to make educational attainment through professional development more accessible through this financial offering to directly support students

Funding is to support up to $500 for conferences that support global stewardship, belonging, community engagement, interculturalism, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion in any field of study.

Selection Process and Proposal Rating Criteria

Proposals are initially reviewed by Intercultural Center Staff and some selected campus representatives. The committee will review the proposals and rate them based on the criteria listed below.

Proposal Rating Criteria

  • Justification

    • Advances Swarthmore College -related outcomes as identified in the 2024 Strategic Plan and the Intercultural Center that includes increasing educating the whole student and prioritizing the continued development of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community.

  • Impact
    • Indicates the potential for tangible results, capacity-building related to a student’s professional development
    • Offers an effective, innovative approach to creating academic or professional development opportunities for students
  • Evaluation
    • Delivers clear outcomes that are consistent with campus-wide goals
  • Budget
    • Appropriate use of funding 

Program Objectives

  • Enhance student access to professional development opportunities by alleviating or removing the financial barrier
  • Amplify student’s exposure opportunities to practitioners by way of attending a conference that at least one tenant that focuses on inclusive leadership
  • Increase student knowledge of inclusive global stewardship and interpersonal development along the lines of identity and culture
