Building Partnerships

Two faculty members walk away down campus path

Robust relationships with study abroad partners are essential to sustaining high-quality global education opportunities. Our partnerships are most effective when they are rooted in active engagement with Departments and Programs across campus. This ensures that Swarthmore-approved study abroad offerings are closely aligned with the College's curricular goals, educational values, and standards.

The Global Engagement Office (GEO) is committed to well-designed programs that balance intellectual depth, cultural immersion, and appropriate support.  Such high-quality experiences enhance student engagement, contribute to timely degree progress, and reinforce Swarthmore's global mission.

Visits to Study Abroad Programs

Maintaining standards requires direct engagement with partners, including regular communication, site visits, and collaborative planning. When possible, the Global Engagement Office (GEO) is happy to partner with faculty who may be interested in visiting one or more overseas programs.

Site Visit Reports

The systematic evaluation and reevaluation of study abroad programs plays a vital role in ensuring offerings remain relevant, well-delivered, and responsive to the evolving needs of our students.  Following completion of any comprehensive site visit, participants must submit a templated Site Visit Report.

Considering New Programs

Swarthmore’s portfolio of approved study abroad programs is continually reevaluated to ensure it continues to serve changing academic, professional, and global contexts.   Should there be any gaps in programming, GEO welcomes proposals from colleagues to introduce potential new partner programs.
