Two Swarthmore Chemistry Majors Win NSF Graduate Fellowships
Chemistry majors David Zee '07 and Nathan La Porte '08 won NSF Predoctoral Fellowships.
David is a graduate student at UC Berkeley, where he is carrying out research in the lab of Jeffrey Long, an inorganic/materials chemist. David's proposal was entitled: "Molecular Catalysis Deriving from Earth-Abundant Elements for Efficient Hydrogen Production from Water " - he is combining synthesis of Mo and Co complexes with electrochemistry to undertake this project.
Nathan La Porte is a graduate student at the University of Chicago working with Michael Hopkins on an artificial photosynthesis project. NSF award funds three years of graduate work.
