Summer Program with Chester Children's Chorus

Swarthmore students and faculty work with members of the Chester Childrens Chorus as part of the summer "Science for Kids" program.

Swarthmore faculty and students work with groups of children from the Chester Children's Chorus each summer.

The department of Chemistry and Biochemistry participates each summer in the Science for Kids program. Initiated through funding provided by HHMI, the program is currently supported through the College and is part of the Chester Children's Chorus 5 week summer program. Senior Lecturer Ginger Heck, Lab Instructor Caroline Burkhard, Professor Kathleen Howard, and many undergraduate Chemistry and Biochemistry research students have been involved in this program.

The aim of the program is to show children that science, especially chemistry, isn't scary - it's fun! The program almost exclusively involves hands-on laboratory work in experiments that show the children chemistry in everyday life.
