RELG 001: Religion and Human Experience

Fall 2007 Introduction to Religion Course
Religion One - Religion and Human Experience
This course introduces students to the nature of religious worldviews, their cultural manifestations, and their influence on personal and social self-understanding and action. We will explore various ideas seminal to religion and its study: sacred scripture, visions of ultimate reality and their various manifestations, religious experience and its expression in systems of thought, and ritual behavior and moral action.
Each year a new topic will engage these issues in the study of religion using a comparative approach. This year, the topic will be FOOD AND RELIGION.
