Claire Klieger to Lead Career Services

Claire Klieger

Next month, Claire Klieger will join Swarthmore College as the assistant vice president and executive director of Career Services. Klieger brings more than 20 years of career and student advising experience, particularly in creating inclusive services and offering resources tailored to students’ unique experiences and diverse interests.

Klieger comes to Swarthmore from the Career Services Office at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned an M.S.Ed. and an Ed.D. She also holds a B.A. in English and anthropology from the University of Virginia.

At Penn, most recently as the senior associate director of the Career Services Office, Klieger has built and maintained strong collaborative relationships with campus partners to extend the reach and enrich the impact of the office. She has fostered a culture of innovative thinking to address both students’ and employers’ changing needs, forged strong collaborations with employers from a range of industries, and created custom programming for first-generation and international students, as well as students served by Penn’s cultural centers.

In addition, Klieger established U.S.-style career centers at public universities and vocational centers in Morocco and served as a Fulbright scholar in Germany as part of a Fulbright program for international education administrators. Both experiences expanded her knowledge of international employment trends and continue to inform her approach in creating career development programs and strategic planning for the nuanced cultural context of individual educational communities.

In her new role at Swarthmore, Klieger will provide leadership, executive oversight, and strategic direction to Swarthmore’s comprehensive career education, internship, employment, and postgraduate opportunity program. She will lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan for Career Services and will play a significant role in shaping the direction of the College’s student affairs program.
