Laurie Ticehurst, piano
Laurie Ticehurst received a B.M. and M.M. from the University of Colorado in Piano Performance and Doctoral Studies at the Peabody Conservatory. Her teachers have included Marjorie Haimbach, Clarence Adler, Leon Fleisher, Rosina Lhévinne, and Susan Starr.
She is a former pianist of Amati Trio and has been on faculty at the University of Colorado (extension division) and Iowa State University, where she was an associate professor. Currently, she is on faculty at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory of Music and also teaches at Swarthmore College.
Laurie has performed in solo and chamber performances throughout the United States. She is a recipient of the Paderewski Award, the U. U. Steve Grant for Humanities, and Denver’s Symphony Young Artists’ Prize.
Laurie has worked for years to meet students at their own levels, whether beginner or advanced, to find their strengths, to determine areas that need attention; and build a strong technical foundation which will enable a realization of dynamics and tone production - skills that help deepen musical understanding of a work and of composer’s intent.
