"It wouldn't be a stretch to say that my experience as a McCabe Scholar has been woven into every aspect of my life at Swarthmore, where I worked in Athletics and the Dean's Office for 15 years. As a student, the scholarship instilled in me a deep appreciation for the opportunity I had been given and sowed the initial seeds of gratitude, a desire to learn, and a commitment to give back to the College on as many levels as possible. Swarthmore stretches and challenges you, and in those moments when I doubted myself, I was often comforted and strengthened by the knowledge that the members of McCabe committee saw something in me worth fostering and believed in me enough to bestow that honor on me.
"As an alum, I am appreciative of the education I received, but most importantly of the lifelong friends I made at Swarthmore. The eight women I met the first day I stepped on campus for preseason are still my most cherished friends. After every wedding and baby shower when we get together now, I am reminded of how lucky I was to be able to meet these women - again, only possible because of the McCabe.
"And as a member of the College staff, I truly endeavored to honor the McCabe family by 'paying it forward' everyday through my interactions with students and colleagues. Over time, I learned that the best way to honor Mr. McCabe is to impact the next generation of students, thereby widening and enhancing his already amazing contribution to the College."
