Faculty Job Opening

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Swarthmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position in mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2027. We seek a candidate specializing in analysis with a possible additional interest in geometry.

Candidates should have an active research program that extends opportunities for student research. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or outstanding promise in teaching a range of courses within our curriculum in a way that motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. The teaching load is four courses a year, normally divided equally between the two semesters. Candidates should have a PhD in hand by Fall 2027.

A complete application should include:

(1) a cover letter that is specific about (a) how you would thrive at Swarthmore, and (b) how you would contribute to an undergraduate-only institution,
(2) a curriculum vitae,
(3)  a document that includes (a) a list of the courses in the Swarthmore math/stat curriculum that you are particularly enthusiastic to teach and (b) a list of the courses for which you have experience in teaching (specifying whether you served as a teaching assistant or as the instructor of record), 
(4) a research statement, including specific opportunities (past or future) for undergraduate research,
(5) a teaching statement that specifies how you will support student success and encourage the inclusion of students from underrepresented groups in the field, and
(6) at least three, but no more than four, letters of recommendation, including at least one that addresses teaching.
