Summer Housing 2018

A limited number of student rooms are available for rent during the Summer of 2018. Swarthmore summer housing is available only to current and active Swarthmore students. At this time, we cannot accommodate non-Swarthmore students.

Members of the Class of 2018 are not eligible for summer housing, nor are members of the Class of 2022.  While we anticipate having a sufficient number of rooms available for all students who request, priority will be given to students who are:

(a) international students and/or students with extenuating circumstances related to home or travel

(b) students participating in sponsored summer research, and, if space allows

(c) students working for an administrative department.

If additional rooms are available, they will be offered to students on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are working for the Admissions Department, your housing will be assigned through your office sponsor, and thus you do NOT need to complete this form.

Location

  • PPR Apartments
    • The PPR Apartments opened in Fall 2017, and is a brand new suite-style residential community that forms a new courtyard with the Palmer and Pittenger communities near the shops in the "Ville". The majority of the apartments house 5-6 upperclass students in individual single-occupancy rooms, and includes a shared common living room and kitchen space, bathroom and shower rooms.
  • Pittenger Hall
    • A quick walk away from the athletic center and the shops in the "Ville", Pittenger provide a quiet and "homey" environment. The dorms have a mix of doubles and singles. Pittenger is connected to Palmer, which holds a a spacious kitchen and lounge.  Most residents use hall bathrooms, and both gendered and gender neutral bathrooms will be provided.

Air conditioning will be provided during the Summer in all rooms in the PPR Apartments and Pittenger.  Additionally, all rooms in the PPR Apartments are non-carpeted.

Room Types

Doubles, triples, and a limited number of singles may be available for the Summer 2018 Term.  Priority for the PPR Apartments will go to rising seniors.  After all rising seniors select their housing, remaining spaces in the PPR Apartments and Pittenger Hall will be assigned based on class year and move-in/move-out dates.

All Summer residents will be assigned a room based on class year, availability, and overall need.  Additionally, due to logistics, any students who currently lives in the PPR Apartments or Pittenger will remain in their room for the Summer 2018 term.  If assigned to a double or triple room, individuals can request to select a roommate if they would not like to be matched with one. If a student does not have a roommate in mind, the OSE will help individual students find matches.

Roommate Preference

On the Summer Housing Application, applicants will have the option to indicate one person they would be willing to share a room or apartment with.  Due to logistics, while we cannot always guarantee roommate preferences, they will be taken into consideration.  It is strongly suggested that students who want to live together in an apartment or shared room should ensure that each party lists the other person on the roommate preference (i.e. Student 1 preferences Student 2; Student 2 preferences Student 1).

Housing Deposit and Payment

If approved for Summer Housing, all students are required to pay a $75 deposit.  This deposit reserves a room for the student.  At the end of the Summer, students will receive this deposit back minus any fees that may occur due to lost keys, room damages, or common area damages.  If a student pays the housing deposit and decides not to reside in Summer Housing, they will NOT receive the deposit back.

Students will also be required to pay for at least 1/2 of the housing cost at the beginning and middle of the Summer.  Specific payment deadlines will be sent to approved students once the housing application is available.
