NIH Names Jon Lorsch '90 Director of Institute

Jon Lorsch '90 has been named the next director of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.  At Swarthmore, he was a chemistry Honors student, and completed his senior thesis under the direction of Judy Voet, who is the James H. Hammons Professor Emerita of Chemistry. In 1990, he received the American Chemical Society Award for Academic Achievement. 

He has been a Professor of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  Jon returned to Swarthmore in 2005 as a Visiting Examiner for the Honors Program in Biochemistry.
