Embracing New Ways to Connect
Given the uncertainty ahead of us, College Advancement has made the difficult decision to pause planning for in-person events during the 2020–21 academic year. Instead, we will expand our virtual event offerings and find new ways to engage the Swarthmore community across the country and around the world. While circumstances may change, this means that our two largest events for alumni and families — Garnet Weekend and Alumni Weekend — which require months of planning and preparation, will not have an in-person component this year.
As we considered how best to serve all of you while maintaining our commitments to the on-campus community, we recognized that the only way to protect the health and safety of all is to encourage physical distancing and reimagine our programs accordingly. We are energized by the opportunity this presents us to think creatively, make our programming more accessible, and expand our definition of what it means to engage with the community.
If you have suggestions for virtual programs, or would like to volunteer to help plan a virtual event, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome to the City, held in cities across the country and around the world every fall, offers a great chance to make new Swarthmore connections in your city or region. Stay tuned for digital alternatives to this beloved tradition!
Swarthmore Connections are regional groups of Swarthmore alumni, parents, and friends that offer opportunities for community members to stay involved with the College and one another. Programs include social, cultural, and educational events; community service projects; and networking opportunities. Connections will offer virtual and digital programs to alumni and families throughout the 2020–21 academic year.
Affinity groups offer alumni opportunities to engage with Swarthmore College and each other around shared interests and identities. Learn more about Swarthmore's alumni affinity network events through their websites:
Swarthmore's traditional homecoming and family weekend, Garnet Weekend 2020 will be replaced with Garnet Gatherings, a monthlong series of virtual programs to be held during October. Join us online as the Swarthmore community comes together to celebrate what makes Swarthmore special for each of us.
In place of Alumni Weekend 2021, milestone reunion classes will celebrate with a year of virtual events tailored just for them. Help plan your class's virtual reunion celebration by joining your class Reunion Committee.
