Important Changes for Fall 2025

The Code of Conduct is updated each summer. This year’s changes include various updates and clarifications to the Student Code of Conduct based on our collective experience and feedback from the Code Review Committee. Learn more details below.

A.R.E. Crum Ledge / NPPR Events

Events and Parties policy:

  • Developed an Alcohol Registered Event (A.R.E.) Party Permit policy for events to be hosted in both NPPR apartments and Crum Ledge. 
Appeals | Major (CJC) misconduct and Title IX

 Appeals procedures for Major (CJC) misconduct and Title IX:

  • Creating a new Appellate Board to review all Major Misconduct and Title IX / College Defined Sexual Misconduct.
  • Each Appellate Board will be composed of three (3) members: a chair and two (2) other board members selected from a pool of specialty-trained board members appointed by the President's Office, Provost's Office, and Division of Student Affairs.
  • Minor Misconduct appeal process remains unchanged. 
Discrimination, Including Harassment (Protected Class)

"Discrimination, Including Harassment (Protected Class)" policy:

  • Updated the Discrimination, Including Harassment (Protected Class) policy to reflect the College’s new Notice of Non-Discrimination policy.
Endangerment or Infliction of Physical Harm

"Endangerment or Infliction of Physical Harm" policy:

  • Formerly titled “Assault, Endangerment or Infliction of Physical Harm.”
  • Renamed to help clarify College expectations regarding violations associated with physical harm and violence.
  • Help clarify the College policy definition from the legal definition.
New Student Handbook Website

Student Handbook:

  • Redesigned the entire Student Handbook in an effort to make the entire website more intuitive and easier to navigate. 
Records Retention and Reporting

"Records Retention and Reporting" policy:

  • Updated this section to more clearly identify that all student conduct records will be kept for seven (7) years after a student’s graduation from Swarthmore; and
  • Created an Outcome Reporting Details chart that outlines the reporting policy and timeline for various student conduct outcomes.
Student Conduct Administrator

"Student Conduct Administrator" definition:

  • Created a section in the Student Conduct Policies and Procedures section of the Student Handbook to compile the various aspects of the role of the Student Conduct Administrator into one section. 
Warning Sanction

"Warning" sanction definition:

  • The sanction of Warning has been redefined.
  • “Warnings are recorded for internal purposes only and are not considered part of a student’s permanent student conduct record”.
  • The sanction of Warning is no longer eligible for appeal review.
