A summer program is an excellent opportunity to accelerate your Spanish—whether you are preparing to major or minor in Spanish or simply want to become more proficient. Students may receive up to one Swarthmore credit for summer study abroad or study at a listed U.S. program.

Summer program costs, including tuition, are not covered by Swarthmore College financial aid, so students are responsible for the full cost. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for a Summer Opportunities Grant (up to $6,000) from the Arts and Humanities Division, which may help cover program tuition and airfare. Please note the grant application deadlines and plan ahead so the funding timeline aligns with your intended program.

The suggested programs below were selected for their strong academic standards and because their costs are roughly in line with the $6,000 grant.

Students apply to and enroll directly with the program provider; these programs are not administered by the College. Consult the Spanish Department before enrolling to ask whether a program may qualify for Swarthmore credit.

Note: For Spanish majors and minors, a summer program will fulfill the semester- long study abroad requirement only in exceptional circumstances.
