Assistant Professor of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at Swarthmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2022. Area of specialization: Social and Political Philosophy (broadly construed). Areas of competence: Open, but we are especially interested in candidates with teaching competence in Aesthetics or 19th-Century Philosophy, and whose research and teaching interests will strengthen one or more of Swarthmore College’s interdisciplinary programs, which include Environmental Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Black Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Comparative Literature, Global Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies. Teaching load: 4 courses per year.  The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

PhD in Philosophy preferred.  The successful candidate will have a PhD in hand by Fall 2022.
