Morgan Chase, the Asia Society and the Bond Market Foundation. She also chose to spend every Saturday at a program at the Museum of the City of New York taking courses in political science and history. Ana was the only high school junior selected to spend a year in China as part of a competitive exchange program, and experience that has had a profound influence on her.
As an Evans Scholar, Ana was able to attend the Clinton Global University Initiative Conference in Austin, TX. She also spent a summer volunteering with Pemon Health, a program that allows Swarthmore students to volunteer in a medical clinic in Uriman, a village of 600 indigenous Pemon people in rural Venezuela. While there she helped develop educational workshops for adults and children promoting good hygiene and dental health as well as encouraging recycling habits and good nutrition. This past summer she held two internships in New York City, one conducting research at the Dominican Studies Institute and another with UJA-Federation.
At Swarthmore, Ana was an officer in ENLACE, the campus Latino organization, and president of Club Despertar, a program founded by Linda Corchado, Evans '08, which works with Mexican immigrants from nearby Kennett Square. Ana is spending fall semester of her junior year in Ireland.
