In celebration of Black History Month we created an updated online version of the exhibition Black Excellence in the Book Arts, which was on display in McCabe Library as part of Swarthmore’s Year of Black Excellence in 2019. The exhibition highlights artists’ books in the Swarthmore College Libraries’ collection by Black artists. Established artists such as Clarissa Sligh and Tia Blassingame are represented along with up-and-coming artists like Cuba and Autumn Thomas.
Each year we create an exhibition of newly acquired works in the Swarthmore College Book Arts + Private Press Collection by local artists, along with those featuring the region. In 2020, we take the gallery online.
The Reactor Room is a digital installation featuring the work of students in Professor José Vergara's course Chernobyl: Nuclear Narratives and the Environment (Spring 2020). This interactive exhibition seeks to facilitate public engagement with the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe and its associated mythology.
