Alumni

COFHE has coordinated consortium-wide alumni surveys periodically. The Class of 1982 was surveyed in 1987 and in 1992 — a five-year and a ten-year follow-up*. The Class of 1984 was surveyed in 1991. COFHE reports on these studies are maintained in the Institutional Effectiveness, Research & Assessment Office.

In January 2000, we surveyed the Classes of 1979, 1984, 1989, and 1994 with COFHE. The consortium designs its own surveys for these follow-ups, with input from the constituent institutions.

In the fall of 2004 Swarthmore participated with AICUP (Association for Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania) in a survey of the Class of 1999.

In January 2005 Swarthmore surveyed the Classes of 1984, 1989, 1994, and 2000. (The Class of 2000 was selected so that comparisons with their Senior Survey responses would be possible. We surveyed the Class of 1999 with the AICUP effort, above.) What was unique about this particular survey is that alumni were given the option of completing the survey on the Web or on paper, whichever they preferred. The final response rate was about 55% overall, similar to the 2000 survey.

Most recently, Swarthmore surveyed the Classes of 1989, 1998, and 2004 in the spring of 2009, using a Web-based survey, and achieving an overall response rate of 60%.

Please contact the Institutional Effectiveness, Research & Assessment Office for more information regarding this survey.
