Dear Swarthmore Students,

Welcome to the 2026-27 academic year! Whether you’re just joining our community or returning from summer break, we’re so glad to see you.

To our Class of 2030: That mix of excitement and nerves you’re feeling — that’s to be expected. You've worked hard to get here, and now you get to truly experience all the magic Swarthmore has to offer. We can’t wait to see what you do!

To our returning Swatties: For certain, there’s something energizing about coming back to a place where you’ve found your footing. You know how things work at Swat and can focus on diving deeper into your studies and interests.

To our transfer students: I was a transfer student as well, and I know that starting over takes courage. You’re bringing valuable experiences and perspectives to Swarthmore that will help you build on what you've already learned while exploring new possibilities.

As the semester moves forward, please remember that you’re at your best when you’re taking care of yourself. Make sure to carve out time for the things that bring you joy — whether that’s joining a new club, jumping into research with our incredible faculty, or just catching up with friends at Sharples. Don’t forget to pause and recharge when you need it; we live and learn in an arboretum, so there’s always a beautiful spot nearby to just sit and breathe. Stay curious, keep asking big questions, and stay open to new ways of seeing the world.

You’re never navigating these ups and downs alone. Swarthmore is full of people who are genuinely and consistently here for you. Your student deans, academic advisors, residential peer leaders, and CAPS counselors are always ready to listen. We also have amazing teams in the following areas:

Being part of this community is very special, and it comes with a shared responsibility to show up for each other with kindness and respect — even when we see things differently. Listening and finding common ground is how we grow together. It also means looking out for one another by following our community policies. It’s my responsibility to share with you the Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct so that you are aware of the rules and expectations we have in place to keep our campus a safe and respectful place for everyone. You’re responsible for abiding by the Code at all times, so I encourage you to take some time to review it.

As you settle into your routines, I hope you embrace the challenges and find plenty of joy both in and out of the classroom. Here’s to a year of growth, connection, and some wonderful surprises along the way!
