Welcome to Swarthmore's Report a Concern and Request a Resource website. This site allows you to share important information regarding incidents or concerning behavior happening in the Swarthmore College community. You can also request a resource for yourself on behalf of another community member.

These report forms, unless otherwise noted, are available for use by any student, faculty, staff member, or unaffiliated member of the College community. 

If you believe that a situation you are reporting is an emergency and requires immediate attention, please first call Public Safety at x8333 or 610-328-8333 from off-campus.

 

Report Academic Misconduct

Academic Misconduct is defined as a violation of the College’s standards of academic integrity, whether the violation is intentional or unintentional. Academic misconduct consists of cheating on an exam, plagiarism on an academic assignment, or unauthorized collaborative work.

Report Child Abuse

Child Abuse is the physical, sexual, emotional, and/or psychological maltreatment or neglect of a child. A child is defined as an individual under the age of 18 who has not been emancipated from their legal parent/guardian.

Report Discrimination or Harassment

Discrimination or Harassment refers to behaviors based on someone's affiliation with a protected class (race, religion, etc.) that either has a disparate adverse impact on a person or group, or is so pervasive, persistent, or severe that it would interfere with an individual's ability to take full advantage of the educational and employment opportunities at the College.

Report a Student's Disruptive Behavior

Disruptive Behavior in the living/learning environment is any behavior that interrupts another’s ability to conduct or engage in class, perform the essential duties of their job, and/or limits their ability to fully access and engage with the Swarthmore campus. If you would like to report disruptive behavior related to Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination, or Harassment, please do not use this form. Rather, use the reporting mechanisms that exist for those specific concerns found elsewhere on this page.

Report Employee Misconduct or Disruptive Behavior

Disruptive Behavior in the workplace is any behavior that interrupts another’s ability to perform the essential duties of their job, and/or limits their ability to fully access and engage with the Swarthmore campus. If you would like to report disruptive behavior related to Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination, or Harassment, please do not use this form. Rather, use the reporting mechanisms that exist for those specific concerns found elsewhere on this page.

Report Hazing

Hazing includes, but is not limited to, any behavior and/or acts of servitude that is designed or intended to humiliate, degrade, embarrass, harass, or ridicule an individual. You can anonymously report hazing, but please note that this may limit the College's ability to respond appropriately.

Report a Non-Emergency Facilities Hazard

Non-emergency hazards are situations that pose potential risks or dangers but do not require immediate action or response, such as slippery floors, poor lighting, or broken windows. Please report emergencies to Public Safety by calling 610-328-8333 or 911.

Report Retaliation

Retaliation refers to behavior based on an individual's participation in an activity protected by College policy or federal, state, or local law (i.e. participating in a discrimination investigation, reporting unlawful activities to the proper authorities) that either has a disparate, adverse impact on an individual, or is so pervasive, persistent, or severe that it would interfere with an individual’s ability to take full advantage of the education and employment opportunities at the College.

Sexual Misconduct includes Title IX and College-Defined Sexual Misconduct. This may include gender-based discrimination, sexual harassment, dating or intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, or sexually harassing behaviors.

An accommodation is a change in facilities or policies that enables an otherwise qualified person to perform their essential job functions. To request a disability accommodation, please email Lisa Pierce.

Request a Disability Accommodation for a Student

A disability accommodation is a change in facilities or policies that allows equal access to college programs and services. The accommodations process is designed to be collaborative and Student Disability Services staff members work with students to identify appropriate accommodations. 

To submit an accessibility request and begin the accommodation process, please log into Accommodate and submit an Accessibility Request form. This can be found on the left-hand navigation menu.

Request Emergency Funding for Students

The Student Emergency Fund was created to help students with financial assistance in a serious time of need. This fund is intended to be a supplemental financial resource when students are unable to meet immediate and essential expenses because of a temporary hardship surrounding situations such as accidents, illness, death of a family member, fire damage, or need for temporary housing.

Request a Religious Accommodation

Religious Accommodation is a change to facilities or policies that allows an individual to practice their sincerely held religious beliefs, practices, or observances. Use this form to request a religious accommodation for your working, living, or learning environment. Individuals are encouraged to submit this form 30 days in advance of the requested effective date or for requests related to housing assignments and room changes.

Request Academic Support for a Student

Should you have an academic concern about a student, please submit it using the "Send Concerns" function in either Faculty Services (for Faculty) or mySwarthmore (for Staff). This will be reviewed by the student deans who will follow up as needed. Details about accessing this form are as follows:

  • Faculty: access Faculty Services and search for the student of concern or find the student based on the class you are teaching. Each student's main page has a "Send Concern" button.
  • Staff: go to My Swat, scroll to the bottom of the 'Main Menu' page, and select the 'Student Concern' button.
  • Should you be unable to access from either of the above options please contact Eric Jensen, Dean of Academic Success, to share an academic concern you have about a student.

If none of these forms seem appropriate, please submit your concern, question, or request using this form. Responses will be reviewed by the dean of students, vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion, vice president of Human Resources, provost, and director of Public Safety, and will be routed accordingly based on the nature of your submission. If you are a faculty or staff member and need support with personal or professional challenges or hardships, please contact the Provost's Office, Human Resources, CareBridge, or use this form.
