Course InfoClass Number: 1204 This course is designed for students interested in learning ethnographic methods, qualitative and quantitative social science methods, and how to learn from and write about quantitative and qualitative results. Students will learn and practice ethnographic field methods, for example, observation, participant observation, interviewing, generating and analyzing statistical data, and ways to productively transform qualitative and quantitative data into contextual information. An introduction to the basics of statistical methods for social scientists will also be covered. Ethics in ethnographic research will be a central theme, as well as ways to envision and design projects that protect human subjects. The purpose of this course is to provide anthropology majors and other students in the social sciences and humanities an opportunity to learn methods that can be used in their thesis research, Hanna Holborn Gray summer research, and other social science research opportunities.
