Clare Hyre is the Interim Director of Sustainability in the Office of Sustainability at Swarthmore College. At Swarthmore, Clare manages the Green Advisors and the Sustainability Advocates programs, as well as the Worthmore Free Store and Worthmore Move-Out program. Likewise, Clare leads the implementation of Swarthmore's zero waste commitment, the College’s commitment to sustainable food systems, as well as the College's ambitious energy plan, To Zero By Thirty-Five . Clare previously served as the Associate Director and before that as Sustainability Program Manager.
Clare is committed to collaborative and community-based sustainability solutions and will support and advise a number of student research projects through the President’s Sustainability Research Fellowship and additional Office of Sustainability student employee positions.
Clare received a BA from Guilford College with a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies and Religious Studies, with a minor in Quaker Studies in 2008 and graduated with a MA in Food Studies with a focus in Food Systems from New York University in 2016.
