President Valerie Smith shared the following message with the community on March 9 2018:

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

During the past week, Swarthmore and its surrounding communities have felt the dramatic impacts of winter storms Riley and Quinn, including numerous fallen trees, wind damage, and lost power. Our campus experienced these challenges as well. At times like these, we are all especially grateful to the many members of our community who keep the campus safe and fully functioning. Their efforts remind us that selflessness and generosity of spirit are core values of the College.

I want to thank the members of our community who worked tirelessly to maintain the operations of the College and to keep us safe. In particular, I thank the staff in Athletics, Auxiliary Services, Dining Services, EVS, Facilities, Grounds, ITS, Libraries, OSE, Public Safety, and members of the faculty who managed to get to campus and ensure that students were able to work and learn during the storms.

A special thank you to Anthony Coschignano, Bill Maguire, Domenic Porrini, Isaiah Thomas, Jeff Jabco, Linda Mcdougall, Mike Hill, Rachel Head, Ralph Thayer, Tom Cochrane, and Tyrone Dunston, for their calm, thoughtful leadership and nimble problem-solving.

When you cross paths with these friends and colleagues in the coming days and weeks, please stop and thank them for their care and dedication.

Sincerely,

Valerie Smith
President
