Remembering Cora Weiss (1934-2025)
Cora Weiss in front of the United Nations
We celebrate and honor the life of Cora Weiss (October 2, 1934-December 8, 2025). Weiss was a peace and social justice leader and activist. She was a supporter of the United Nations, an early member of Women Strike for Peace, a leader in the anti-Vietnam war movement and disarmament movements in the United States. She was the director of the Riverside Church Disarmament Program and active with SANE, SANE/Freeze, Peace Action, and The Hague Appeal for Peace. Weiss became president of the International Peace Bureau in 2000. She was active in women's peace issues, hosting the first women's radio program in New York City in the 1970s, attending women's disarmament summits in the former Soviet Union, the U.N. Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, and many other events. Weiss was the recipient of numerous peace awards from all over the world. We are grateful for her thoughtful contributions to the Peace Collection, and we hope her memory will be a blessing to all who knew her.
