Crum Regatta will move from the spring to the fall to be included in Garnet Homecoming and Family Weekend.

With an interest in providing more opportunities for alumni and families to engage in life on campus, Swarthmore is launching the first annual Garnet Homecoming and Family Weekend. The celebration, featuring athletic contests, faculty lectures, and performances, will take place on Oct. 22-24.

"Creating new traditions - and reintroducing old ones - offers our College community a wonderful opportunity to collaborate in organizing a memorable celebration for Swarthmore," says President Rebecca Chopp. "The weekend promises to be filled with festivities that will enable us to watch our students and faculty in action and to enjoy getting to know one another in new ways."

This new tradition allows Family and Friends Weekend, as well as the Crum Regatta, to move from the spring to the fall after this academic year. "Many colleges host their family weekends in the fall to give parents, siblings, and friends a chance to touch base with their students early in the year," Chopp adds."Many Swarthmore families have asked us to do the same, and we are pleased to accommodate their request."

A Garnet Weekend planning committee, including students, faculty, and staff, will be formed soon to help with programming and other details. Also forthcoming is a new tradition planned for the spring semester that will showcase students' accomplishments in music, dance, and theater arts.
