Last weekend, Tobias Resch '11 held a soccer clinic on Cunningham Fields as part of his efforts to raise $3,000 to provide disadvantaged children with the equipment necessary to participate in sports. The clinic, which featured soccer coaches and players from five area schools, raised $1,600. Now more than two-thirds of the way to his goal,  he has until April 20, to raise the rest. more

"Without sports, I would have never even heard about Swarthmore," says Resch, an honors economics and political science major from Frankfurt, Germany. "I've seen firsthand where sports can get you. To think other kids could have that opportunity but don't because they don't have a basketball or cleats, well, it's personal for me."

In addition to training for the Boston Marathon, Resch, a former member of the Garnet men's soccer team, helps coach two local girls soccer teams.
