Joe Alberti '06 Finds
Niche in Philadelphia Elementary School
by Nancy Nicely
As an Honors linguistics major with minors in educational studies and psychology, Joe Alberti '06 once said he looked forward to the challenge of teaching in an urban environment and the "need to make a big splash." Now, still in the midst of his first year at Philadelphia's Samuel Powell School, his impact on his third-grade classes is already being felt. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, 14 of his students were below grade level when they started the year. That number has been cut in half, with Alberti assuring parents that all will eventually meet that goal.
