Kathryn Morgan

The National Association of Black Storytellers named Kathryn Morgan, Sarah Lawrence Lightfoot Emerita Professor of History, to its Circle of Elders at its 25th anniversary celebration in Atlanta last month. Morgan, a powerful storyteller and performer and Swarthmore's first African American professor, is the author of Children of Strangers, her pioneering account of how five generations of women in her family used folklore to impart wisdom and experience to their children. In a 2000 Bulletinarticle, she recounted some of her experiences growing up in Philadelphia and her arrival at the College.
