The English Literature department offers a wide range of opportunities and events outside the classroom to support our students’ development and aspirations.
Student Summer Support for Writing, Research, and Internships
The English department supports deep student engagement in critical and creative writing and in developing work experience in a variety of fields. Most specifically, we offer two scholarship opportunities for summer work:
- The Morrell-Potter Summer Scholarship supports writers of poetry, fiction, and occasionally creative non-fiction, enabling them to focus on their writing full-time for a summer.
- The Snyder-Potter Research and Engaged Scholarship Award supports independent student research and critical writing. It may also provide funds enabling students to pursue relevant internships that would otherwise be financially inaccessible.
Support for Student-Initiated Events
The department has a small fund available for co-sponsoring events initiated by students and other departments. To apply for funding support, please complete the English Literature Event Support Request form. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis each semester.
Travel and Conference Funds
The department has a small fund available to support student travel to conferences or other professional development opportunities. For consideration, please complete the English Literature Travel/Conference Funding Request form. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis each semester.
