Award-winning Costume Designer Joins Our Staff

Levonne Lindsay is a Barrymore award-winning costume designer from Philadelphia, PA, who will be joining the Swarthmore Theater staff as our new full-time Costume Shop Manager. Her freelance design work is featured at theaters all over Philadelphia; most recently, she designed the costumes for Guillermo Calderón's "KISS" at the Wilma Theater.

After receiving her MFA in Costume Design from the University of Maryland, College Park, Ms. Lindsay was awarded a two-year Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship at Arena Stage in Washington DC. While living in DC, she became the Resident Designer for the African Continuum Theatre, designed several shows for The Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences and The Everyman Theatre in Baltimore MD, and returned to Arena Stage as the costume designer for their production of Yellowman, directed by Tazewell Thompson. ​

Ms. Lindsay has taught costume design at Valdosta State University, James Madison University, Stevenson University, and the University of the Arts. While teaching, she continued to freelance as both a costume designer and faculty member at regional theaters, schools, and festivals across the country.
