Singer/songwriter Amy Vachal '11 was an instant hit on NBC's popular singing competition The Voice, impressing the four celebrity coaches and studio audience during her blind audition.

Vachal, who double majored in economics and art while at Swarthmore, played guitar and sang a rendition of "Dream a Little Dream of Me." Within 20 seconds of her performance, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, and Gwen Stefani pressed their button and turned around to tell Vachal that they wanted to work with her. Adam Levine, whose roster was full and could not choose her, said he thought she could win the entire competition. After the coaches made their pitch to Vachal, she ultimately decided to work with Williams.

With blind auditions over, Vachal will work with Williams in an effort to win the grand prize - a recording contract. Vachal now advances to the show's next stage and looks to advance into the knockouts, the live playoffs, and then the live performance shows.

Vachal is the second Swarthmore alum to appear on The Voice. She follows Chevonne, aka Lauren Ianuzzi '07, who competed in 2012. 

While at Swarthmore, Vachal was a member of the women's lacrosse and soccer teams. Her performance is currently the 16th most popular song on the iTunes pop chart.

Update, Oct. 28:

Vachal survived the battle round and proceeded to the knockout round where she performed "A Sunday Kind of Love." Though Williams selected her competitor as the winner, Vachal was stolen by Adam Levine and will continue to compete in the show as a member of Team Adam.
