Watch: The Class of 2017 Arrives

This week, campus again burst to life with the arrival of the Class of 2017.  After moving into their new homes on campus, Swarthmore's newest students began settling in and getting to know each other.

President Rebecca Chopp, Vice President and Dean of Admissions Jim Bock '90, and Dean of Students Liz Braun joined in welcoming students during an event in Lang Concert Hall, while returning students answered questions for their families about the first-year experience.  Orientation continued throughout the week with important workshops and meetings, as well as social events like enjoying free ice cream and playing ultimate frisbee on Parrish Beach. Other highlights include the academic advising fair, the annual service project, a tree planting in the Crum Woods, and cheering on the men's and women's soccer teams in their season-opening tournaments at Clothier Field.

Orientation continues with First Collection, a long-standing tradition that marks the official beginning of every student's Swarthmore career. The festivities conclude on Sept. 1 with dinner in Sharples, followed by an a capella performance in Clothier Bell Tower. The academic year kicks off with the start of classes on Sept. 2.
