Josephine Lang (1815-1880) wrote her setting of “Nähe Des Geliebten” in 1834 as the first of a set of four German songs.

Piano Quartet in E-flat major, opus 47, was composed by Robert Schumann (1810-1856). The first movement begins with almost complete stillness, yet the violin’s first notes contain the seed of the drama to come.
