Profile at the Department of History

Professor of Art History, is a specialist in the interpretation of medieval art, with a particular interest in reconstructing the production and viewing contexts of stained glass windows. He teaches a variety of courses on the art and architecture of the European Christian Middle Ages, but much of his teaching at Swarthmore is done in the Art Department's theory-and-methods-based course (ARTH 001: Critical Study in the Visual Arts) and a capstone seminar for senior art history majors which returns to the issues of disciplinary interpretive practice introduced in ARTH 001.
