Bennett Lorber

Lorber, a resident of Elkins Park, Pa., is the Thomas M. Durant Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Temple University School of Medicine and a former consultant in infectious diseases at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He is a member of Physicians for Human Rights, a master of the American College of Physicians, and a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, among others. He is the recipient of prestigious awards including a 2013 National Teaching Award from the American College of Physicians and a 1996 honorary doctor of science degree from Swarthmore College.

Lorber earned a B.A. in biology from Swarthmore and an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He first joined the Board in 2002, then began a second term in 2007. Lorber is a member of Swarthmore's Alumni Council and has spent 24 years on the Faculty Fellowship Committee. His son Samuel Lorber is class of 1989. He was married to Carol Finneburgh Lorber '63, now deceased.
