Bennett Lorber '64

Bennett Lorber

Lorber, a resident of Elkins Park, Pa., is the Thomas M. Durant Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Temple University School of Medicine and a former consultant in infectious diseases at Fox Chase Cancer Center. He is a member of Physicians for Human Rights, a master of the American College of Physicians, and a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, among others. He is the recipient of prestigious awards including a 2013 National Teaching Award from the American College of Physicians and a 1996 honorary doctor of science degree from Swarthmore College.

Lorber earned a B.A. in biology from Swarthmore and an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. He first joined the Board in 2002, then began a second term in 2007. Lorber is a member of Swarthmore's Alumni Council and has spent 24 years on the Faculty Fellowship Committee. He was married to Carol Finneburgh Lorber '63, now deceased.
